BOOK LIMITING PER SUBJECT
There is a circulation limit of three books on one subject per card holder, unless, at the discretion of a Librarian, they allow more.
DELINQUENT BORROWERS
Any Elmont Public Library borrower or any direct access borrower – adult or juvenile – having any outstanding fines or overdue materials is a delinquent borrower.
A delinquent borrower owing $15.00 or more in lost books or other charges may not borrow any Library materials until all charges have been paid.
If the delinquent borrower refuses to acknowledge responsibility for the delinquency or refuses to pay for the delinquency, irrespective of the amount due, borrowing privileges will be withdrawn until all monies are paid in full.
CHARGES TO PATRONS
Reserves and Interloans – Staff will call or email to notify a patron when material is available.
Videos and DVDs –All NEW (6 months or less) DVDs circulate for two (2) days. All old videos and DVDs are circulated for one week (7 days). The day it is taken out is counted as the first day. Fines of $2.00 per day will be charged to patrons returning videos and/or DVDs after the return date.
Lost/damaged borrower’s card – (adult and juvenile) - $1.00
Overdue Materials
Overdue fines will not exceed the current list price of Library materials. Overdue fines: all adult and juvenile material (except videocassettes and DVDs)…$.10 per day.
Bookdrop – overdue fines will be charged as though the Library materials were returned on the next day the Library is open.
Lost Materials
No refunds on lost and paid items after 30 days from payment. Overdue fines on materials listed below will not exceed the current list price of the Library material:
Lost book – current list price
Lost periodical – current list price
Lost audiocassette, videocassette, CD or DVD– current list price
Lost audiocassette binder - $3.00
Lost videocassette carrying case - $2.50
Lost CD/DVD protector - $2.50
If a patron insists on replacing lost Library books, they are to be informed that the replacement copy must be the same edition in mint condition, to be decided by the Head of Adult Services or Children’s Services, as the case may be. There will be a $3.50 processing charge, plus any fines accrued by the patron, for all replacement books. The Library will not accept replacements for any other type of Library materials, with the exception of factory sealed audio-visual materials, which will be accepted as replacements.
Damaged Materials
Damaged books, not usable – current list price of book
Damaged books, usable – rebinding charge
Damaged audiocassette, videocassette, CD or DVD – current list price
If the patron insists upon keeping the damaged material, which they are replacing, it is to be given to Technical Services Department to be officially discarded. The material will be available within a week for the patron to pick up at the Circulation Desk.
